And the CFDA 2009 Womenswear award goes to ...

Reported by WWD: And the CFDA 09 Winners are ... Congratulations to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler for gnabbing the Accessory Designer of the Year award.

[Photo: Lorenzo Martone and Marc Jacobs]

Some designers you just know are destined to be awarded, for example, Alexander Wang taking home The Swarovski award for Emerging Talent. Followed by one of my favorite womenswear desingers - Anna Sui who was honored with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award ... well over due.

And who brings home the gold? If your guess was Mr. Marc Jacobs, then you're definitely on the money. CFDA awarded Marc with the International Award for his work at Louis Vuitton throughout the years.

Then, to top the evening off completely the First Lady Michelle Obama received the CFDA’s Board of Directors’ Special Tribute ... now that's COCA!

The New Yorker salutes Lady Obama in its Style Issue ...

The 1st Lady Michelle Obama gracefully animates the cover of The New Yorker's biannual Style Issue, which hits newsstands this week with a fashion commentary and a feature on a few of her favorite designers ... make sure you pick up or order your copy, here.

Meet The 1st Lady's favorite designers ...

Obama
has chosen to wear dresses by the designers Thakoon Panichgul and Jason Wu (right) that show off her arms and defy the constricting traditions of the modern First Lady.

“Women should break out of molds that in some cases they’ve created,” Panichgul says. “Mrs. Obama doesn’t want to play by those rules.”

Michelle Obama reminds women that they can make a place for vanity in their lives, and that, when they do, a little fashion can be supremely empowering.

The 1st Lady Serves Up Style in VOGUE

“It’s a wonderful achievement for Vogue,” said editor at large André Leon Talley, who interviewed Obama for an hour at the Hay-Adams Hotel a few weeks before the inauguration. Vogue has photographed the new first ladies since 1929, when the first was President Herbert Hoover’s wife, Lou Henry Hoover.

Obama’s cover portrait, said Talley, “absolutely reflects who she is without any questions. There’s such a warmth that she emanates. It’s the warmest cover you’ve seen in a long time on Vogue. Models pose, actresses pose. This is a real woman.”

For the shoot, the First Lady Michelle Obama chose her own looks for the shoot, including a black Narciso Rodriguez dress and a J. Crew cardigan, top and skirt ensemble from the fall collection.

What To Wear or What Not To Wear ... Is the question.

Understanding that January 20, 2009 is one, if not THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY. With great expectations of President-elect Barack Obama's historical Inaugural Ball festivities - there will be a large number of viewers on the scene/at home awaiting the 'mouth-dropping' selections of Michelle Obama's attire for the evening.

That said, according to WWD, a number of fashion designers sketched out their best ideas of what her "most anticipating gown" should look like. Below are actual sketches of selected designers who've truly captured the true elegance, style and femininity of Michelle Obama.

STYLE NOTE: ATTENTION ... ALL C.O.C.A STYLE READERS, WHICH DESIGNER'S SKETCH BEFITS THE TRUE ESSENCE OF A MICHELLE OBAMA-ISH GOWN TO PREMIERE FOR THE INAUGURAL BALL ON JANUARY 20, 2009?
