Africa has always been the root of where most find there culture, which makes the Continent so great , and now you can add style to the list of things that make Africa great. Nduka Obaigbena (Sean Combs of Nigeria) the CEO of Arise Magazine has teamed up with the AFRICAN FASHION INTERNATIONAL to create ARISE Africa fashion week. AFFW is the platform on which Africa's prodigious fashion talent can finally grab the global spotlight and takes place from JUNE 12th -JUNE 19th 2009.
First up from the Arise Africa fashion week: Lisa Folawiyo JEWEL BY LISA
Jewel by Lisa uses the highest quality Ankara from the Vlisco- Hollandis brand and is frequently mixed with fabrics as wide ranging as taffeta, linen, cotton, chiffon, chantilly lace, and silk. With each embellishment of the fabric with sequins, swarovski crystals and beads hand sewn carefully onto the fabric, a JBL garment on average will take about 120 hours to make. All of her garments are handmade in workshops in Lagos, Nigeria.
