BIO
Born and raised in Chicago by first generation immigrant Nigerian parents (single parent) I started drawing at an early age. I wanted to be a cartoonist. You can see the "cartoon" influence in my work. I work under the name: Ian Luston. Why? Because Ian Luston is a disenfranchised creative monster. In my later years I will work under my given birth name. This series of work will be personal, cultural, exploratory and intimate. The work I will talk about today is not personal and does not conform to a specific ideal. Ironically, my work has no political, cultural, spiritual or sexual reference. I enjoy using dry/soft/chalk pastel as my preferred medium of choice. In the future I hope to venture into toy making as well. The art you experience today was created for enjoyment of color themes and to potentially "space" you out. Nothing more.
ABOUT WORK
I'm motivated by the desire to create colorful and visually appealing works of art that explore existentialist themes in vivid color fields. My work is a juxtaposed clash between pop surrealism and the abstract. I purposely create art that is associated with a degree of ambiguity. The primary focus of my work is directed at examining the relationships between line, color and space, and how these relationships affect each other. I explore vivid themes in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional stages to produce a colorful psychedelic paradox that evokes sensation causing the viewer to generate their own interpretation of what is being communicated. My purpose as an artist is not to investigate, explore politically or culturally, but rather to colorfully stimulate the viewer while invoking a degree of existentialist inquiry. I feel operating this way supplicates the viewer into contemplating the concept of a true and meaningful visual experience. You can find out more here: http://www.myspace.com/

:-) true blue
Wow! Your work just pops man! Great colors and a wounderful world you create.
I think this is a great juxtaposition of vivid color, that can denote excitement and movement, and existential themes that struggle with the apparent meaninglessness of life and the use of diversion to escape from boredom. It’s as if you can enter into the subject’s psyche and catch sight of what they manufacture in their minds to combat the tedium of life.
I must admit, your art is truly amazing! The colors you use are soothing to me. You're very talented and this is only the beginning for you! Many blessings to you Ian.
color is very important and you've used it well!!
Very nice! I like the colors and the sense of movement in some of these. Beautiful compositions. Keep it up!
its hard to pair whimsicality with geometric shapes and patterns - but this captures that feeling.
i love it! it's like urban alice in wonderland.
i like the use of pastels (colors and material). i'm more inclined to the abstract than the defined human shapes. they work better with the strong use of hard shades pushed against each other.
I love color...I think it is one of the most amazing and beautiful things in this world. I love your use of color and the way your work stimulates the mind. I would love to come see you in a show in Chicago. Make it happen!
