This month, Timberland will launch its brand-new Abington collection, inspired by traditional boots made for factory workers, farmers and blacksmiths back in a time when the land was rugged, the people were rugged and the gear they depended on had to be, too.
Taking its moniker from the original Timberland company name (The Abington Shoe Company), the collection presents clean, modern classics designed for the streets, but inspired by the fields and factories. Dave Cory, the collection’s creative director, and designer Anthony Evans created classic styles for the collection’s Holiday 2008 season debut that defy trends, fly in the face of our current disposable culture and reflect Timberland’s long history of quality craftsmanship.
The Abington collection includes three styles: Hiker (in Tan and Black, retail price $180); Roll-Top (in Tan, Brown and Black, retail price $160); and Cupsole (in Brown and Black smooth, with suede, retail price $100).
All three silhouettes are crafted from locally-sourced, premium leathers from Horween Leather Company of Chicago and the Hiker and Roll-Top SKUs feature premium Vibram outsoles.
To convey the traditional work inspiration behind Abington, each pair in this limited collection is packaged in tissue paper designed by illustrator Heather Hernon, with hand-drawn boot making tools, shoe components, landscapes, round wooden barns and other images reminiscent of pre-industrial New England.
