Boating was born in Ghana and raised in London where his mother's talents as a stream-stress combined with his love of uniforms and striking colors led him to his chosen art.
He combined fashion design and tailoring to coin the phrase "bespoke couture" in description of his work.
His suits began to reach a wider audience in the late 90s during the early days of Tony Blair's government and his clothes soon came to be seen on the red carpets of the world, adorning actors from Will Smith and Jamie Foxx to Russell Crowe.
